Ang Boon Kong Lawrence

Mr Lawrence Ang Boon Kong is Senior Consultant of Donaldson & Burkinshaw’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice, specialising in corporate offences and criminal law.

After graduating from the then University of Singapore in 1970, Mr Ang joined the Singapore Legal Service as a Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP).

As a DPP, he prosecuted numerous cases in the subordinate courts and the High Court, and argued appeals in the High Court and the Court of Appeal. He cut his teeth by crossing swords with eminent members of the criminal bar (many of whom have since retired from the legal profession) and Queen's Counsel from the UK and Australia.

In 1987, as Senior State Counsel, Mr Ang was appointed to assist the Commission of Inquiry concerning the death of the then Minister for National Development Mr Teh Cheang Wan who committed suicide in the midst of corruption investigations.

Between 1991 and 1999, Mr Ang held the post of Director, Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) during which he led the prosecution of several high profile white collar crime cases including that of former Member of Parliament Choo Wee Khiang and Barings Bank trader Nick Leeson.

Mr Ang last held the appointment as Principal Senior State Counsel of the Criminal Justice Division, Attorney General's Chambers, where he took charge of a team of about 100 DPPs & APPs.

In 2007, the Government conferred on Mr Ang the Public Administration Medal (Gold), in recognition of his contributions to the Service.

Soon after his retirement from the Service, Mr Ang was appointed by the Bruneian Government as a Consultant to its Criminal Justice Division, Attorney General's Chambers.
