Ng Kian Siang David


David is a Patent Scientist with our Intellectual Property Practice.

Prior to joining the Firm, David worked as a research engineer at the National University of Singapore where he was involved in a project to develop a novel medical device for improving surgical outcomes of ligament reconstructive surgery. During his stint, David had the opportunity to work closely with clinicians and business consultants with the aim to develop a device prototype for commercialisation.

David was awarded a National University of Singapore (NUS) Research Scholarship to perform scientific research as a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Bioengineering at NUS from 2007 to 2011. For his thesis, David examined the responses of bone marrow stem cells to biophysical stimulation. He was also actively involved in other research projects during his training and has considerable research experience in topics ranging from bioreactor systems, biomechanics, material science, stem cells, tissue engineering, to the design of medical devices.

David’s work was presented at several international conferences and won the Best Paper (Silver) award at the 4th Scientific Meeting organized by the Biomedical Engineering Society in 2007. His work has been published in several peer reviewed scientific journals, including Biomacromolecules, Biomaterials, Journal of Biomechanics, Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A, Journal of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, The American Journal of Sports Medicine, and Tissue Engineering Part A.

David graduated from NUS with a Ph.D. in Bioengineering in 2012. He completed his Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) in Biomedical Engineering in 2007. He also obtained a Graduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law (Merit) in 2014. David was also awarded a book prize by the Association of Singapore Patent Attorneys (ASPA) for being the top scorer of Paper A (Preparation of a Patent Specification) in the Patent Agents Qualifying Examinations.
