TIN Keng Seng Eric


Eric is a Partner of Donaldson & Burkinshaw LLP. He heads the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice and the Medico-Legal Practice Group. He is an Advocate & Solicitor of Singapore, and a Solicitor-Advocate of England & Wales with rights of audience in the higher UK courts. Prior to private practice, he was a District Judge and a senior Deputy Public Prosecutor. He was a Singapore Legal Service scholar with a Masters of Law from NUS.

Eric specialises in medical litigation as a panel legal advisor of the Medical Protection (MPS) and Dental Protection (DPL). Since 2008, he has advised and acted for doctors from the public and private sectors in a range of medical malpractice claims and Singapore Medical Council disciplinary proceedings. He is a teaching faculty of SMA's Centre for Medical Ethics & Professionalism, and also a guest faculty of the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School.

For criminal litigation, Eric undertakes both defence and prosecution work. He was co-counsel in the landmark Brompton Bicycle case, and was appellant’s counsel before the Court of Three Judges in another landmark criminal case. Acting for a statutory board, he and his team successfully prosecuted and obtained a deterrent sentence against a major F&B player in a high profile case. Eric has also been a member of the Ministry for Home Affairs' Criminal Law Advisory (Hearing) Committee.

For commercial litigation, Eric succeeded in a landmark Court of Appeal case which clarified the law on unconditional bankruptcy discharge. He has successfully acted for clients in commercial cases involving contentions of fraud and conspiracy at High Court and District Court levels. His expert opinion on attorney fees arising from an admiralty case was accepted by a US District Court. Eric is also an Adjudicator of the Financial Industry Disputes Resolution Centre (FIDReC).

Eric has been profiled in Asia-Pacific Legal 500 and Asialaw Profiles, and endorsed as a Market-Leading Lawyer in Asialaw Leading Lawyers 2016 for dispute resolution and litigation.
